Forget keyboards or touchpads, Siri is here to stay

5 12 2011

So most of us are used to pulling out our laptops to type out emails and messages, or even our IPads or cell phones.  But is it going the way of the dinosaur?  With Siri and the evolution of voice-recognition software it will be far easier to speak commands to your device than to utilize a keyboard.  Star Trek fans are now screaming in one voice, “We told you so!”  Just like Captain Kirk asking the computer questions or giving it commands aboard the Starship Enterprise Siri is just the beginning.  Apple and Google are fast working to improve and expand.  What does this mean?  You may be talking to your phone more often without anyone on the other line. Think about it:

1) Search for something on Google by asking your phone and having it give you the answer.

2) Transfer funds from your bank to another account.

3) Have Siri bid on ebay items for you.

4) Ask for the easiest way to get to an address and have Siri guide you there.

The possibilities are mind-boggling!

Thoughts on a Drizzly Sunday Morning

4 12 2011

Sunday morning and I’m at Starbucks editing photographs.  For those of you who don’t know I pretty much know the Starbucks staff across the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex due to my frequent visits.  It’s my home away from home.  Coffee, meeting people, the internet.  Ooooh Yeah.  (I should’ve invested in the company a long time ago but oh well too late to fuss).

Sunday is a day that many people go to church and as such a day full of meaning.  People cling to their individual beliefs and find meaning in their lives because of it.  God works in mysterious ways some might say.  As an artist I couldn’t agree more.

I gave some photography tips to some eager students the other day and said, “your photographs need to tell a story and convey something.  How does it make you feel? What do you like about it? What does it make you think of?”  An assignment for anyone interested in photography is to photograph something ordinary – a flower for example.  But do so in a way that’s different…that presents the flower differently…pay attention to how the light falls on it, pay attention to what’s in your background.  You’re not just a photographer, you’re a storyteller.

Bagpipes in the Mist

2 12 2011

A great title for a short story or poem or some art-work don’t you think?

I’m helping my son out of the truck for school this morning, it’s foggy and dismal out – slightly chilly and quiet for a work day, and I hear the sound of bagpipes resonating in the air from somewhere a ways away.  My son is tugging at me ready to go to school but for some reason the sound of the pipes in the fog touched me to my core – Like hope in a hopeless place; comfort in a world of pain.  There is a fire station just across the way; a fireman is outside piping in the mist; I sit for a few minutes and take it all in.

This is where a great photograph comes from…something in that moment this morning touched my heart in ways words cold never express.

…Going to the fire station to photograph the man and his pipes in the mist (provided he gives me permission of course :) )

Those moments when just quick snapshots will suffice :)

Those moments when just quick snapshots will suffice :)

Christmas is almost here and we are all scrambling to do what we can to buy those last minute gifts we HAVE to have. We’ve put up our trees; strung our lights; added to our stress; emptied our pockets; and we are now in the huddle ready for the snap (that’s right I used a football metaphor).

This season let’s laugh at ourselves and how much we put into making this holiday ‘perfect.’ This photograph captures that pretty well. For those who know me I also use the word ‘ditto’ quite frequently so this was just a perfect moment for the day. Thanks to the Facebooker who captured it! Do you need a job?

While you’re at all the craziness for the season…………..that’s right……….

Book a Portrait Session and for $130 get:

1-Hour on location Professional Portrait Session
Laser-inscribed DVD of Post-edited photographs
Custom-designed DVD cover

Tis the season for Seniors and Families – Thanks

27 05 2010

We’re having a blast getting to know lots of high school and college seniors and families early summer.  It’s getting hot and with the heat comes (forgive the cliche) “beat the heat” discounts.  Watch the blog, website, twitter, and facebook for coupons!  Spaces are limited as our season is already booking up.  It will be first come first serve.

Here are some pics from a recent shoot.  We enjoyed the photo session H’s and you have a beautiful family!  Have a wonderful summer!
